The Conference which is part of an ISS project on the Regulation of the Private Security Sector in Africa which seeks to support the effective regulation of the growing private security sector in Africa towards the establishment of a consistent and logical regulatory framework for national, sub-regional and regional legislation and protocols.
The Conference aimed at addressing the following:
"the manifestation and extent of the private security sector in Africa; the underlying reasons for the sector’s unprecedented growth in Africa; the impact of the industry on various aspects in the Africa society such as human security, human rights, development etc.; and the need for its effective regulation in Africa, both at the national and regional/international levels".
Experts from different parts of the world presented papers addressing the above, which shall be complied in an ISS monograph.
